内容目录

ASTM F1554 is a common U.S. standard for anchor bolts used in concrete foundations, steel columns, equipment bases, poles, and structural supports. The grade number refers to minimum yield strength in ksi.

That means Grade 36, Grade 55, and Grade 105 are not interchangeable.

ASTM F1554 Grade Comparison

Basic Strength Differences

ASTM F1554 GradeMinimum Yield StrengthTypical Tensile RangeCommon Use
Grade 3636 ksi58-80 ksiLight to medium foundations, general construction
Grade 5555 ksi75-95 ksiSteel columns, poles, equipment bases
Grade 105105 ksi125-150 ksiHeavy-load anchoring and critical structural work

For general anchor product planning, buyers can review anchor fasteners before finalizing drawings and specifications.

When to Use Each Grade

Grade 36

Grade 36 is the most economical option. It is often selected where high strength is not required and where field fabrication or welding may be involved.

Use it for standard foundations, light steel structures, and non-critical equipment anchoring.

Grade 55

Grade 55 is a practical middle ground. It offers higher strength than Grade 36 without jumping to the cost and control requirements of Grade 105.

One important note: if welding is required, specify the proper supplementary weldability requirement. Do not assume all Grade 55 anchor bolts are weldable.

Grade 105

Grade 105 is used where high load capacity is required. It needs tighter control of material, heat treatment, testing, and traceability.

For high-load projects, compare requirements with high-strength fasteners before approving substitutes.

What Buyers Should Specify

Grade Alone Is Not Enough

A complete ASTM F1554 inquiry should include:

  1. Grade: 36, 55, or 105.
  2. Diameter and total length.
  3. Thread length and thread series.
  4. Shape: straight, L-type, headed, or custom.
  5. Nut and washer requirements.
  6. Finish: plain, zinc plated, or hot-dip galvanized.
  7. Certificate and testing requirements.
  8. Drawing revision and quantity.

For carbon steel grade and finish options, see carbon steel fasteners. For outdoor foundations, compare coated fastener options.

Final Buying Advice

Do not select ASTM F1554 anchor bolts by diameter only. Grade controls strength. Shape controls embedment. Coating controls service life. Nut and washer matching controls installation reliability.

A clear specification prevents wrong-grade supply, failed inspection, and costly foundation delays.
