How to Source Fasteners for Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Projects from China

内容目录

Oil, gas, and petrochemical fastener sourcing is not the same as buying general hardware. The risk is higher. A wrong stud bolt, mismatched nut, missing MTC, or unsuitable coating can delay a shutdown, fail site inspection, or create leakage risk at a flange joint.

When sourcing from China, the key is not only finding a low price. The key is controlling specification, traceability, testing, packaging, and communication before production starts.

Start With the Project Specification

Do Not Quote From a Product Name Only

“B7 stud bolt” is not enough. For oil and gas projects, the buyer should send a complete technical line item.

RequirementExample
ProductStud bolt with 2 heavy hex nuts
StandardASTM A193 B7 / ASTM A194 2H
Size3/4″-10 UNC x 6″
CoatingPTFE, zinc flake, hot-dip galvanized, or plain/oiled
ServiceFlange joint, pipeline, valve, pressure equipment
DocumentsMTC, EN 10204 3.1, inspection report
PackingMarked by heat number, size, and PO line

For general supply capability, buyers can review industrial fastener products before preparing the inquiry.

Match Materials to Service Conditions

Common Fastener Choices

ApplicationCommon Material / GradeBuyer Note

Low-temperature serviceASTM A320 L7 / L7MCheck impact test requirements

Stainless pipingASTM A193 B8 / B8MMatch corrosion condition

For high-load bolting, review high-strength fasteners. For corrosion-sensitive environments, compare stainless steel fasteners and coated fastener options.

Verify the Supplier’s Control Process

What to Check Before Ordering

A qualified supplier should control more than machining. Ask for evidence of:

  1. Raw material traceability by heat number.
  2. Mechanical testing: tensile, hardness, yield, impact when required.
  3. Thread inspection with calibrated gauges.
  4. Coating thickness and adhesion checks.
  5. Nut fit testing after coating.
  6. Batch separation during packing.
  7. English certificates matching the PO and labels.

For drawing-based or non-standard petrochemical parts, use a custom fastener service and approve drawings before production.

Control Documents Before Shipment

Certificates Are Part of the Product

Do not wait until the vessel is booked to ask for documents. For oil and gas projects, missing or inconsistent paperwork can stop customs clearance or site receiving.

Required documents may include:

  • Mill Test Certificate
  • EN 10204 3.1 certificate
  • Dimensional inspection report
  • Coating report
  • Hardness report
  • Certificate of Origin
  • Packing list by heat number and package number

Final Sourcing Advice

When sourcing oil, gas, and petrochemical fasteners from China, choose suppliers who can read specifications, control batches, and provide traceable documents. Price matters, but uncontrolled fasteners cost more when they fail inspection.

The safest purchase order defines material, standard, grade, coating, testing, certificates, packaging, and delivery terms in writing before production.
