High-strength carbon or alloy steel fasteners need corrosion protection. A class 10.9 or 12.9 bolt is not corrosion-resistant by grade alone.

Before choosing material, define:

  1. Indoor, outdoor, marine, underground, chemical, or high-temperature use
  2. Moisture, salt, chloride, acid, alkali, or cleaning chemical exposure
  3. Static load, vibration, shear, tension, or combined load
  4. Expected service life
